CMA Conference Recap: From Pickleball to Private Lending
We’re back from the CMA Conference in sunny Newport Beach! It was an incredible gathering of mortgage pros and industry leaders, with Dennis Doss and Chris Donovan representing Doss Law and Doss Docs. The conference was packed with discussions on the latest trends, regulations, and the hot topics that are shaping mortgage lending.
CMA Conference Kicking Off with Fun
The 1st Annual Pickleball Tournament was the perfect start—full of friendly competition and plenty of laughs (some of it may have been at the expense of others). The Wednesday night mixer was just right for reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting new ones, all set against the beautiful Newport Beach backdrop.
CMA Conference Sessions: Insights and Trends
Thursday’s Broker-Lender Round-Tables, moderated by Pam Sosa, were all about swapping strategies and insights in a more casual environment. The “Fund Manager State of the Union” session with Brock VandenBerg and Shafiq Taymuree provided an in-depth look into national trends in mortgage funds and private loan pricing.
Dennis Doss also shared a market overview, pulling from Doss Law and Doss Docs‘ data analytics. Seeing how the current trends align with what’s happening in the field gave everyone a clearer picture of where things are and where they might be heading.
Buzz at the CMA Conference: ADUs and Moon v. Milestone
Dennis Doss joined the ADU panel, discussing legislative changes like AB 1033 and AB 976. These updates—allowing the separate sale of ADUs and removing owner-occupancy requirements—are significantly reshaping the lending landscape. It’s not just about staying compliant (although critical); it’s also about understanding the new opportunities these changes bring for lenders.
Another hot topic at the CMA Conference was the Moon v. Milestone usury ruling. There was a lot of interest and questions from lenders eager to understand its impact. We engaged in many conversations, offering educational insights. Doss Law and Doss Docs stays ahead of these developments, ensuring our clients and their documents are compliant and reliable.
Looking Ahead: What’s Next After the CMA Conference
The CMA Conference was a great reminder that the mortgage industry is always evolving, making it essential to stay informed. Next up, CMA is hosting “Private Money Basics” on October 3 at the Hilton Orange County. Dennis Doss will be sharing insights on practical private money lending, with a focus on using automation to streamline processes and ensure compliance. Register here.
We’re already looking forward to continuing these discussions and seeing where the industry takes us next!
